When the McCarthy witch hunt for free thinkers began in the U.S.A. in the fifties, Marcil decided to leave the country, as did Chaplin, Dassin and thousands of like-minded American writers, movie directors and artists.
In Paris, Marcil joined in at La Grande Chaumière, a studio shared by artists of l’École de Paris. (School of Paris)
